US President Donald Trump has announced sweeping agreements with major pharmaceutical companies aimed at significantly reducing prescription drug costs, calling it the largest price cut in American history.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said that several leading drugmakers, including Regeneron, have agreed to adopt a “most-favoured-nation” pricing model. This would ensure that medicines sold in the United States are priced at levels comparable to the lowest rates offered in other countries.
The President stated that a total of 17 of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies—representing around 80 percent of the branded drug market—have agreed to the new pricing structure. He emphasized that the move would bring unprecedented relief to American patients, who have long faced higher drug prices compared to other nations.
Trump argued that the agreements mark a major step toward correcting what he described as an imbalance in global drug pricing, where Americans have historically paid disproportionately more for the same medications.
