Ravana–Kubera Battle Near Kailash to Open ‘Ramayana’ Film

The upcoming film adaptation of the Ramayana is set to open with a powerful and visually striking sequence featuring Ravana’s early conquest, shifting focus away from the traditional Rama–Ravana confrontation.
According to details revealed from the production, the film will begin with Ravana’s battle against Kubera, highlighting his rise to power before the central events of the epic unfold. The sequence is based on Ravana’s takeover of Lanka from his half-brother Kubera and his subsequent pursuit of him to Alakapuri near Mount Kailash.
Set against the mythological backdrop of Mount Kailash, the opening chapter is expected to showcase the scale of Ravana’s ambition and dominance, portraying him as a complex figure driven by conquest and power rather than a one-dimensional antagonist.
The project is being developed by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with global VFX company DNEG and Monster Mind Creations. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and featuring involvement from actor-producer Yash, the film is being designed for a global audience with a strong emphasis on visual storytelling and mythological depth.
The Ramayana adaptation aims to reimagine familiar episodes of the epic through large-scale cinematic sequences, beginning with one of its lesser-explored yet significant mythological conflicts.
