Tripura Legal Metrology Seizes Faulty Scales in Basundhara Jewellers Raid

In a swift enforcement action, the Tripura Legal Metrology Department raided Basundhara Jewellers here on Wednesday, seizing three weighing machines found operating with expired validity certificates over a year past due.
The surprise inspection by a team from the Sadar subdivision was triggered by formal consumer complaints alleging irregularities in the weights of gold ornaments. Officials discovered that the machines used for gold, silver, and other precious items lacked required annual verification and documentation, violating the Legal Metrology Act.
Speaking to reporters, a department official confirmed: “The raid followed credible consumer reports. Our State Weights and Measures team acted immediately to protect buyers from potential short-weighting.”
Authorities have issued a strict deadline for the shop's management to get the scales re-verified by end of day, warning of legal penalties including fines or prosecution if not complied with.
