Ramayana Could Be India’s First Global Theatrical Blockbuster, Says Global Exhibitor John Fithian

Global exhibitor John Fithian has expressed strong optimism about the upcoming film Ramayana, suggesting it could become “the first global theatrical blockbuster out of India.”
Fithian, founding partner at The Fithian Group LLC, shared his views on LinkedIn ahead of CinemaCon 2026, noting his collaboration with producer Namit Malhotra as the project takes shape for worldwide release.
In his post, Fithian highlighted that he and his partners did not initially expect to work on a project of this scale, calling Ramayana a potential milestone moment for Indian cinema on the global stage.
The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, is being developed as a two-part epic with extensive use of visual effects and large-scale production design. Actor Yash is also associated with the project.
Early promotional visuals, including a recent “Rama glimpse,” have already generated significant online attention for their scale and technical ambition. However, industry observers note that box office expectations remain speculative until the film’s release.
Fithian’s remarks add to growing international buzz around Ramayana, which is increasingly being positioned as one of the most ambitious Indian film projects aimed at a worldwide theatrical audience.
