A major liquor smuggling attempt involving supplies meant for defence personnel was foiled in Assam’s Sonitpur district following a joint operation by security agencies.
The operation was carried out on April 17 near Misamari railway station. During the operation, officials intercepted a consignment of approximately 150 cases of liquor that had allegedly been diverted from a local depot.
According to authorities, the seized liquor was originally intended for sale through Canteen Stores Department (CSD) outlets, which provide subsidized goods exclusively to Indian Army personnel. Smugglers were reportedly attempting to move the consignment into the open market незаконно.
Officials stated that such activities not only violate defence supply regulations but also result in significant revenue losses. Further investigation is underway to identify those involved and determine whether the incident is linked to a larger smuggling network.
