In a stunning electoral triumph, the Tipra Motha Party stormed back to power in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, capturing 24 out of 28 seats and cementing its stronghold in the state's indigenous regions.
The State Election Commission declared the results on Friday, revealing a near-total consolidation of tribal votes behind Tipra Motha. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) salvaged just four seats, while traditional players like the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress, and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) drew a blank—a dramatic wipeout signaling shifting allegiances.
Prominent Tipra Motha victors include Rabindra Debbarma (Simna-Tamakari), Buddha Kumar Debbarma (Amtali-Golaghati), James Debbarma (Ramchandraghat), Dhirendra Debbarma (Demchhara-Kachuchhara), Jagadish Debbarma (Jirania), David Murasing (Kathalia-Mirja-Rajapur), and Prasmit Debbarma (Halahali-Asharambari). The party's sweep across districts underscores its deepening roots among Tripura's tribal communities.
BJP candidates held firm only in Chhawmanu, Dasda-Kanchanpur, Silachhari-Manubankul, and Machmara, amid a broader Tipra wave. Political observers view this as a body blow to the BJP's influence in tribal areas, potentially reigniting debates over autonomy demands.
