Governor Jishnu Dev Varma Pays Last Respects to Asha Bhosle

Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma paid heartfelt tribute to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle on Monday, visiting her Mumbai residence to lay a wreath on her mortal remains and console the grieving family.

The Governor described her passing as an "irreparable loss to the world of music," adding that her immense contributions would inspire generations.

Asha Bhosle, revered as the "Enchantress of Melodies," shared a profound connection with Tripura through her marriage to R.D. Burman in 1980 and collaborations with his father, S.D. Burman—both scions of Tripura's royal family. S.D. Burman, a prince of the erstwhile Kingdom of Tripura, infused Bollywood with the state's folk traditions, shaping Asha's iconic voice in countless hits.

Bapi Roy, Editor of TripuraToday.com, revealed repeated unsuccessful attempts on Sunday night to contact Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma, a prominent Tripura royal descendant and Tipra Motha leader, for his views on Asha's legacy and ties to the family. "His mobile remained switched off, with no response," Roy noted.
