Cabinet Clears Two Major Hydropower Projects in Arunachal Pradesh

The Union Cabinet of India has approved investment proposals for two large hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh, marking a significant step toward strengthening the country’s renewable energy capacity.
The first project, the 1,200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project, will be developed in Anjaw District at an estimated cost of ₹14,105.83 crore. It is expected to be completed within 78 months.
The second project, the 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project, will span across Kamle District, Kra Daadi District, and Kurung Kumey District. The project has an approved outlay of ₹26,069.50 crore and is scheduled for completion within 96 months.
These projects are expected to boost hydropower generation, support infrastructure development in the northeastern region, and contribute to India’s clean energy goals.
