BJP Alleges Attacks on Workers, Calls for Peaceful Elections

Political tensions are gradually escalating across the state ahead of the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Expressing concern over recent incidents, State Assembly Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy alleged that BJP workers and supporters have been targeted in attacks, along with incidents of vandalism involving vehicles and houses.

On Monday, she took part in a public outreach and door-to-door campaign organized by the BJP’s Teliamura Mandal in the 28 Teliamura Assembly constituency. The campaign was held in support of BJP-nominated candidate Billu Jamatia for the 11 Maharani–Teliamura electoral seat. Several party leaders, workers, and supporters were present during the campaign in the Rangkhalpara–Budhrai area.

During the outreach programme, Kalyani Saha Roy directly interacted with local residents. Accompanied by candidate Billu Jamatia, she visited households, engaged with voters, and appealed for their support. She urged people to elect Jamatia, highlighting local development priorities, particularly the future of the youth.

In an interview, the Chief Whip stated, “Such acts of violence ahead of elections are completely against the Constitution. Political forces resorting to such activities are doing so out of desperation due to declining public support.”

She further emphasized that in the interest of democracy, all political parties should participate in the electoral process peacefully, maintaining harmony and upholding constitutional values.
