Dharmanagar Bypoll: Polling for Election Officials Underway
Apr 04, 2026
The by-election process for the 56‑Dharmanagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura has officially begun, with polling for election officials underway ahead of the main voting day.
Polling personnel, including government officials and police staff, started casting their votes at Bir Bikram Institution in Dharmanagar. The voting is being conducted over two days — April 3 and April 4 — from 9 AM to 5 PM. A total of 159 polling personnel are participating in this advance voting exercise.
Election authorities reported that the process has been smooth and well-organized. “The polling personnel have exercised their franchise with a strong sense of responsibility, and the atmosphere has been marked by enthusiasm,” said Returning Officer Devyani Chowdhury.
Strict security measures have been put in place to ensure a free, fair, and transparent voting process. Officials confirmed that all arrangements to maintain law and order for the main by-election, scheduled for April 9, 2026, have been completed.
The by-election was necessitated following the death of former MLA and Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen in December 2025. The Dharmanagar constituency is now gearing up for a closely watched contest as political parties prepare for the final polling day.
