Opposition Backs Government After All-Party Meet on West Asia Crisis

The government on Wednesday convened an all-party meeting at the Parliament House complex to discuss the evolving situation in West Asia and its implications for India. The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by senior Union ministers, including Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar, and Hardeep Singh Puri, along with leaders from various political parties.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, addressing the media after the meeting, said that leaders from opposition parties raised several questions and concerns, all of which were addressed by the government. He noted that opposition parties have extended their full support to the government in dealing with the situation.

Prominent opposition leaders, including Mukul Wasnik, Tariq Anwar, John Brittas, and Dharmendra Yadav, were present at the meeting. The discussions come amid escalating tensions in West Asia, which have disrupted key maritime routes and raised concerns about the safety of Indian nationals in Gulf countries.

The meeting followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address in Parliament, where he announced the formation of seven empowered groups to formulate strategies on fuel security, supply chains, fertilisers, and other critical sectors. These measures aim to minimise the impact of the ongoing Iran-Israel-US tensions on India’s economy and citizens.
