Mizoram Records 1,845 Births and 720 Deaths in January 2026


Mizoram recorded 1,845 live births and 720 deaths in January 2026, according to the latest data from the Economics and Statistics Department.

The demographic trend showed a higher birth rate among females, with 949 girls born compared to 896 boys. Aizawl district reported the highest number of live births at 732, followed by Lunglei with 292 and Lawngtlai with 170. Of the total births, 1,127 occurred in urban areas and 718 in rural areas. The report also recorded 5 stillbirths during the month.

On the mortality front, 456 males and 264 females passed away, with urban areas accounting for 479 deaths and rural areas 241. The data also highlighted the loss of 15 infants under one year and 5 children aged 1–5 years.

A retrospective look at 2025 showed 21,873 births with a balanced gender ratio (11,076 males and 10,797 females), while 8,080 deaths reflected a significant gender disparity: 5,183 males versus 2,897 females, a trend continuing into January 2026.

The figures indicate a net population increase of 1,125 in January 2026, with urban areas remaining the central hub for both births and deaths.
