PM Modi Urges Diplomacy Amid West Asia Conflict, Highlights Impact on India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Rajya Sabha, outlining India’s position on the ongoing conflict in West Asia and stressing the urgent need for dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace in the region.

Speaking on the situation, the Prime Minister said the conflict, which has been continuing for over three weeks, has led to rising global tensions and triggered a serious energy crisis. He noted that India has consistently called for de-escalation and emphasized the importance of reopening critical maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which remains vital for global oil supply.

Modi expressed concern over the disruption of international trade routes, stating that the conflict is affecting the steady supply of essential commodities such as petrol, diesel, natural gas, and fertilisers. He warned that these disruptions could have significant economic consequences for countries dependent on imports, including India.

Highlighting humanitarian concerns, the Prime Minister said the safety of Indian citizens living abroad remains a top priority. He noted that nearly one crore Indians reside and work in Gulf countries, and their security and livelihoods are being closely monitored by the government.

He also pointed out that several ships are currently stranded in the Strait of Hormuz due to the conflict, with many Indian crew members onboard, further adding to the government’s concerns.

Reiterating India’s stance, Modi called for peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels, underlining that stability in the region is crucial not only for global peace but also for economic security worldwide.
