Sikkim to Host 49th Junior National Badminton Championship 2026
Mar 22, 2026Sikkim has been selected as the host for the 49th Yonex Sunrise Junior National Badminton Championship (U-19, Individual and Team) 2026, marking a significant milestone for the state’s sporting journey. The prestigious tournament is scheduled to be held from November 14 to 21.
Jacob Khaling, President of the Badminton Association of Sikkim, expressed pride over the state being chosen to host the national-level event for the first time. He described it as a major opportunity to showcase Sikkim’s growing sporting infrastructure and enthusiasm for badminton.
The championship, organised under the Badminton Association of India, will bring together top junior players from across the country, offering a platform for emerging talent to compete at the highest level.
Khaling also extended his gratitude to the association’s leadership and executive members for placing their trust in Sikkim. He noted that the event is expected to boost the state’s sports profile while inspiring local athletes by giving them exposure to some of the finest young badminton players in India.
