Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated peacefully in Boxanagar

Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Boxanagar on Saturday, marking the end of a month-long period of fasting. Like the rest of the state, the festival was observed peacefully, with no reports of any untoward incidents. Authorities ensured tight security arrangements across various Eidgahs, with adequate police deployment.

People from other religious communities also joined in, visiting different locations to convey Eid greetings to the Muslim community.

Boxanagar, under Sonamura subdivision in Tripura, is one of the most Muslim-populated regions in the state. Eid prayers were offered across multiple Eidgahs following Islamic traditions. After the prayers, people embraced one another and exchanged greetings, reflecting unity and brotherhood.

This year, Eid congregations were held at a total of 35 locations in Boxanagar. The largest gathering took place at the central Eidgah ground, where approximately 2,000 to 3,000 worshippers offered prayers. The main prayer began at 7:30 AM and was led by Maulana Shafiqul Islam, Imam of Madhya Boxanagar Jame Mosque.

The Eidgah grounds were filled to capacity, with worshippers dressed in traditional attire—kurta-pajamas, caps, and new clothes—adding to the festive spirit. Children also participated enthusiastically, joining elders in prayers and celebrations.

Local MLA Tofazzal Hossain attended the prayers and extended Eid greetings to people across India, the state, and Boxanagar. He emphasized unity beyond religion, stating that people of all faiths Hindus, Muslims, and Christians—can live together in harmony as one nation.

Following the prayers, people exchanged greetings, embraced each other, and offered donations (Fitra) to the poor and needy. The Imam also prayed for peace and well-being for people of all religions across the world.

The day saw vibrant celebrations, with families busy hosting guests and attending invitations. Children in new clothes filled the streets by afternoon, while people from different communities visited each other’s homes, strengthening bonds of communal harmony.
