Cameron McEvoy Breaks 50m Freestyle World Record

Olympic and world champion swimmer Cameron McEvoy has set a new men’s 50‑metre freestyle world record, clocking 20.88 seconds at the China Open in Shenzhen. The 31‑year‑old Australian shaved 0.03 seconds off the previous mark of 20.91 seconds, held by Brazil’s César Cielo since 2009.

Cielo’s record was set during swimming’s “super‑suit” era, when high‑tech suits provided extra buoyancy and reduced drag. These suits were banned in 2010, making McEvoy’s achievement even more remarkable.

McEvoy, already an Olympic and world champion, now holds the world record in the 50m freestyle, cementing his place among the sport’s elite sprinters.
