The Tripura Legislative Assembly was marked by a sharp exchange on Tuesday over the state government’s recent announcement of a 5% Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for employees and pensioners. During Zero Hour, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman questioned whether the hike had actually been approved in the cabinet before the budget was presented, noting that budget documents such as the “Budget at a Glance” made no mention of it. He demanded that the cabinet memorandum be presented to the House for clarity.
Responding firmly, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha asserted that the DA decision had been properly approved by the cabinet and that all legal procedures were followed. He added that such announcements do not need to appear in budget documents and dismissed the claims as politically motivated. The government is expected to submit the relevant documents to the Assembly on March 25 to settle the matter.
