Women’s Commission Distributes Sewing Machines to Promote Women’s Self-Reliance

In a significant step toward promoting women’s self-reliance, the Women’s Commission, in collaboration with ONGC under its CSR initiative, distributed sewing machines to 120 women at Sukanta Academy Hall in Agartala.
The program aimed to help women develop tailoring skills, start their own ventures, and achieve financial independence. Jharna Debbarma, Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, attended the event and encouraged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the sewing machines to support their families.
Of the 120 recipients, 50 were from Gomati district, 30 from Golaghati, and the rest from Bamutia and West Tripura. Speaking on the occasion, Debbarma highlighted the importance of economic empowerment in strengthening women’s role in society.
Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting that the assistance would improve their livelihoods and foster self-dependence. The initiative underscores the Commission’s continued commitment to uplifting women through skill-based programs and welfare measures.
