UPPL Releases First Candidate List; Pramod Boro to Contest from Tamulpur

The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) on Monday announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, with party president Pramod Boro set to contest from the Tamulpur constituency.

Boro, who was recently elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha, will now enter the state electoral fray as the party looks to strengthen its presence in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Announcing the list, UPPL general secretary Raju Kumar Narzary said the party intends to field candidates in all 15 constituencies within the BTR. The UPPL, a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), continues to maintain a competitive political relationship with its key regional rival, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).

In its initial list, the party has nominated Aninda Basumatary from Gossaigaon, Raju Kumar Narzary from Dotma (ST), and Lawrence Islary from Kokrajhar (ST). Other candidates include Nerswn Boro from Bhergaon, Dipen Boro from Udalguri (ST), and Kamalsingh Narzary from Bijni.

The announcement signals the UPPL’s intent to mount a strong challenge across the BTR in the forthcoming elections.
