Lok Sabha Revokes Suspension of Eight Opposition MPs
Mar 17, 2026
The Lok Sabha on Tuesday revoked the suspension of eight opposition Members of Parliament after unanimously adopting a motion moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
The motion sought the immediate termination of the suspension of the MPs, who had been barred from attending the remaining part of the Budget Session due to unruly behaviour in the House last month.
The members whose suspension has been lifted include Manickam Tagore, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Hibi Eden, Dean Kuriakose, Prashant Padole and Kiran Kumar Reddy of the Congress, along with S. Venkatesan of the CPI(M).
Moving the motion, Mr. Rijiju said the government remains open to engaging with the opposition and is willing to find solutions through constructive and responsible discussions.
The development came after Congress Chief Whip K. Suresh expressed regret over the “inadvertent indiscretion” of some members and urged the House to withdraw the suspension. He also assured that the opposition is committed to ensuring the smooth functioning of the House.
The appeal was supported by Dharmendra Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Supriya Sule of the NCP (SCP), both of whom backed the call for restoring normal proceedings. JD(U) leader and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh also emphasized the need to uphold parliamentary traditions and maintain decorum.
The eight MPs had been suspended on February 3 following disruptions during proceedings. Their reinstatement is seen as a step towards easing tensions and facilitating smoother conduct of parliamentary business.
