Drone Strike Near Dubai Airport Triggers Fire, Flights Temporarily Suspended

A drone strike near Dubai International Airport early Monday morning sparked a large fire close to fuel storage facilities and forced the temporary suspension of flight operations at one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.

According to the Dubai Media Office, emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene after the strike. The fire was brought under control within a few hours and was successfully contained without spreading to other critical infrastructure.

The Dubai Civil Defence confirmed that no injuries have been reported so far. However, the incident disrupted airport operations, with incoming flights diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport and other regional airports while authorities assessed the situation.

Airline operator Emirates advised passengers not to travel to the airport until further notice, warning that flight schedules could be affected.

The strike comes amid escalating tensions across West Asia following the conflict that began on February 28 between the United States, Israel and Iran. Regional infrastructure has been placed on high alert in recent weeks amid fears of missile and drone attacks targeting strategic facilities.

Authorities also imposed temporary traffic closures around the airport to allow emergency services to respond swiftly. Roads including the Airport Tunnel and Al Garhoud Bridge towards Casablanca Street were closed during the emergency operation.

The incident follows recent U.S. strikes on Kharg Island, a key hub for Iran’s crude oil exports. Iranian officials had previously warned that attacks on strategic infrastructure could trigger retaliation against facilities across the region linked to American interests.

Officials say security across the United Arab Emirates has been further tightened following the incident. Authorities have also urged residents to rely on official sources for updates and avoid sharing unverified videos or rumours as investigations into the drone strike continue.
