Russia Summons UK and French Envoys over Bryansk Missile Attack

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has summoned the British and French ambassadors to Moscow to protest the alleged use of Western-made cruise missiles in a Ukrainian attack on the Russian city of Bryansk.

According to the ministry, the ambassadors—Nigel Casey of the United Kingdom and Nicolas de Rivière of France—were called in and presented with a “strong protest” over the March 10 strike, which Russia says killed and injured several civilians.

Russian authorities claim the attack was carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces using Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles, which are produced by the joint French-British defense company MBDA and supplied to Ukraine by the United Kingdom and France.

Moscow accused London and Paris of contributing to the escalation of the conflict by providing long-range weapons that can strike deep inside Russian territory. The Foreign Ministry said the issue was raised directly with the two envoys during the meeting.

Ukraine has not immediately commented on Russia’s protest regarding the reported use of the missiles in the Bryansk attack.
