US Says It Is Gaining Ground Against Iran

The United States Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, has said that the United States is gaining the upper hand in its ongoing conflict with Iran. However, he declined to specify when the war might end, stating that the final decision rests with US President Donald Trump.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Hegseth said the United States is focused on three key objectives: neutralizing Tehran’s missile capabilities, destroying its naval forces, and permanently preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

He stressed that the United States would continue its military operations until Iran is “totally and decisively defeated.”

Despite Washington’s claims of progress in the conflict, Iranian leaders have remained defiant, vowing to continue resisting US military actions. Iran has repeatedly denied pursuing nuclear weapons, insisting that its nuclear programme is intended solely for peaceful purposes.

The tensions escalated after US strikes targeted several major Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025. Following the attacks, President Trump claimed that the strikes had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear programme.
