Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio, has stressed the importance of conducting an accurate census to ensure effective planning and policymaking in the state.
Speaking during the ongoing session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, Rio highlighted the upcoming 2026–27 census and cautioned that multiple or duplicate entries could affect official records such as bank accounts, ration cards, and other government documentation.
The Chief Minister also pointed out serious discrepancies in previous census data, particularly those recorded in 2001 and 2011.
Rio urged legislators to raise awareness in their constituencies and involve district planning boards, civil society organisations, churches, and community leaders to help ensure the accuracy of the census process.
He further informed the Assembly that the state government will hold a detailed discussion on the census on March 12.
