Trump Announces U.S.–Reliance Partnership for New Texas Oil Refinery
Mar 11, 2026
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a major partnership with India’s Reliance Industries to build a new oil refinery in Texas, marking the first major refinery project in the United States in nearly 50 years.
The proposed facility, to be located at the Port of Brownsville, Texas, will be developed under the name “America First Refining.” Trump described the initiative as a landmark step for the U.S. energy sector and a key part of his administration’s efforts to boost domestic energy production and strengthen energy security.
According to the announcement made on the social media platform Truth Social, the project could represent a long-term economic impact of up to $300 billion. The refinery is expected to create thousands of jobs and is being promoted as one of the cleanest refining facilities in the world.
The project comes amid rising global energy tensions, particularly in West Asia, where ongoing conflicts and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz have affected oil supplies. By expanding refining capacity at home, the United States aims to stabilize energy markets and increase exports of refined petroleum products.
The initiative also aligns with Trump’s “America First” economic agenda, which focuses on lowering taxes, easing regulations, and accelerating permits for major infrastructure and energy projects.
If completed as planned, the Texas refinery would mark a significant milestone in U.S. energy infrastructure and strengthen energy cooperation between the United States and India.
