Assam CM Announces Rs 9,000 Payout to 40 Lakh Women on International Women’s Day
Mar 08, 2026Marking International Women’s Day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa SarmaHimanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced that nearly 40 lakh beneficiaries of the state’s flagship Orunodoi Scheme will receive Rs 9,000 each next week.
The consolidated payment, scheduled for March 10 at 10:30 AM, will cover four months of pending installments along with an additional grant for the upcoming Bohag Bihu celebrations. The total transfer is expected to amount to Rs 3,600 crore, making it the largest one-day disbursement under any government scheme in the state.
Speaking during a Facebook Live session, CM Sarma said the move aims to directly support women across Assam while coinciding with cultural festivities, ensuring financial relief reaches families promptly.
