India to Host First-Ever Khelo India Tribal Games from March 26 to Promote Tribal Sporting Talent

The inaugural edition of the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 will be held from March 26 to April 6 across three cities in Chhattisgarh — Raipur, Jagdalpur and Sarguja. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya.
The first edition of the Games will feature competitions in seven medal sports: athletics, football, hockey, weightlifting, archery, swimming and wrestling. In addition, mallakhamb and kabaddi will be showcased as demonstration sports. Athletes from most states and Union Territories across the country are expected to participate in the multi-sport event.
Speaking about the initiative, Mandaviya said the Khelo India Tribal Games are part of the government’s broader effort to expand sporting opportunities for young people across India. He noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build a developed nation where sports play a key role in empowering youth.
Earlier, the logo, theme song and official mascot of the Games were unveiled at the Late B.R. Yadav Sports Stadium on December 23 in the presence of Vishnu Deo Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao.
Mandaviya also highlighted that the Games aim to identify and nurture sporting talent from tribal regions. The government, he said, is committed to supporting promising athletes from tribal communities and integrating them into the national sports ecosystem through structured training and development programmes.
The Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 will be jointly organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (India), the Sports Authority of India, the Indian Olympic Association, National Sports Federations and the Chhattisgarh state organising committee.
The official mascot of the Games, named “Morveer,” reflects the cultural identity and spirit of Chhattisgarh’s tribal communities, symbolising courage, pride and unity. The event is seen as a significant step towards promoting sports participation and empowering tribal athletes across the country.
