Women’s Empowerment Key to India’s Progress, Says Vice President

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday said that India’s progress is being driven by the empowerment and self-reliance of women. He made the remarks while addressing an interaction programme with Lakhpati Didis and members of Self-Help Groups at the International Fair Ground in Hapania, Tripura.
Speaking on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Vice President said that empowering women and ensuring equal opportunities for every citizen remain central to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that the state government is playing an important role in implementing this vision.
Mr. Radhakrishnan expressed gratitude to the Lakhpati Didis for their contribution to economic and social development and wished that many of them would grow further to become “Crorepati Didis” in the future. He also said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha, women in the state will continue to advance toward greater self-empowerment.
The Vice President noted that over the past decade, the central government has placed women’s achievements at the centre of the country’s development agenda.
Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and Chief Minister Manik Saha also addressed the gathering. Later, the Vice President visited stalls showcasing products made by Self-Help Groups and interacted with women entrepreneurs.
