Gukesh beats Guijarro in final round of Prague Chess Festival
Mar 07, 2026World Chess Champion D. Gukesh of India defeated Spain’s David Anton Guijarro in the ninth and final round of the Masters section at the Prague International Chess Festival in the Czech Republic on Friday.
Despite the victory, Gukesh had a challenging tournament. After recording a few draws and three losses earlier, he finished with 3.5 points, tying for ninth place with Guijarro in the final standings.
Meanwhile, India’s Aravindh Chithambaram delivered a strong performance in the Masters section. He defeated Czech Grandmaster David Navara in the final round to finish with five points and secure joint second place.
In the Challengers section, India’s Divya Deshmukh also impressed. She defeated Czech player Stepan Hrbek in the final round to finish with five points and claim third place in the standings.
