Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with Finland’s President Alexander Stubb, discussing the evolving situation in West Asia, the ongoing Ukraine conflict, and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
During a media briefing in New Delhi, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Sibi George said the two leaders reviewed issues of mutual interest and discussed all aspects of the India–Finland relationship. The current developments in West Asia and the conflict in Ukraine also figured in their discussions.
George noted that Finland’s advanced capabilities in digital innovation align well with India’s digital transformation initiatives. Both sides have established a cross-sectoral joint working group on digitalisation to expand cooperation in emerging technologies such as 5G and 6G, quantum communications, high-performance and quantum computing, and artificial intelligence.
The two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a migration and mobility partnership. The agreement is expected to facilitate the movement of talent, including professionals, students, entrepreneurs, researchers and academics.
India has expressed hope that the partnership will lead to enhanced opportunities for Indian students in Finland, including greater access to internships and post-study employment.
