Mar 02, 2026
Israel’s air force said it dropped more than 1,200 munitions across 24 of Iran’s 31 provinces over the past day as part of a joint military operation with the United States, marking a significant escalation in hostilities between the two sides.
According to Israeli officials, the coordinated strikes targeted multiple locations across the country. In response, Iran reportedly launched retaliatory attacks affecting nine countries in the region, including Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as a UK military base in Cyprus. Most of the incoming projectiles were intercepted, authorities said.
The Red Crescent reported that at least 555 people were killed across Iran in the joint U.S.-Israeli strikes. The deadliest incident occurred in the southeastern city of Minab, where a strike on an elementary girls’ school reportedly killed around 180 children.
In Israel, an Iranian ballistic missile struck the central city of Beit Shemesh, killing nine people and injuring more than 20, according to local officials. In the Tel Aviv area, one woman was killed after being hit by falling shrapnel.
The violence also affected U.S. forces in the region. Four American soldiers were reported killed in action in Kuwait, with five others seriously injured in Iranian attacks.
Separately, Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior confirmed that an Asian worker was killed when debris from an intercepted missile fell onto a foreign vessel undergoing maintenance in Salman Industrial City.
The developments signal a widening regional conflict, with multiple countries drawn into the escalating confrontation.
