Feb 28, 2026
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday held high-level talks with Iwao Horii, Japan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in connectivity, investment and technology-led development.
The discussions focused on policy support and the development of a robust semiconductor ecosystem around the Tata OSAT facility in Jagiroad, which is emerging as a key pillar of Assam’s electronics and manufacturing landscape. Both sides explored ways to enhance collaboration in infrastructure and high-technology sectors, aligning with the broader India–Japan strategic partnership.
Welcoming the Japanese minister to Guwahati, Sarma said the visit—coming soon after the formation of Japan’s new government—reflected Assam’s growing strategic importance within bilateral ties. He expressed confidence that the engagement would open new avenues for Japanese investment and technological collaboration in the state.
