The State Cabinet has approved recruitment to several posts in the Revenue and Health departments and taken key decisions aimed at strengthening education support and women’s justice mechanisms, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat, the Minister informed that six posts of Assistant Survey Officer and ten posts of Revenue Inspector will be filled under the Revenue Department. The recruitment process will be conducted through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC).
In addition, 32 Junior Driver posts will be filled under the Health and Family Welfare Department. The recruitment for these posts will be conducted directly through the Transport Department.
The Cabinet has also approved an increase in the daily stipend for students residing in hostels under the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department. The stipend has been raised from ₹80 to ₹100 per day.
As a result, a total of 712 students residing in 33 government-run boys’ hostels, 22 girls’ hostels and one NGO-run hostel will benefit from the enhanced stipend.
The Minister further stated that in the 2025–26 Budget, the government had announced the opening of free coaching centres to enable more students from the state to compete in national-level competitive examinations.
The Cabinet has now approved the establishment of such centres in Agartala, Ambassa and Udaipur.
A coaching centre for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations will be set up at the new building of Bir Chandra State Central Library in Agartala. The duration of the UPSC coaching will be 12 months, with 20 hours of classes per week.
Coaching for SSC, RRB and IBPS examinations will be introduced at GDC, Ambassa and Netaji Subhash Government College in Udaipur. These courses will run for six months with 24 hours of classes per week.
The programme will be implemented under the Higher Education Department from the upcoming academic session. Students will be selected on the basis of merit, and only permanent residents of the state will be eligible. Each centre will accommodate a maximum of 100 students.
The Cabinet has also approved the implementation of the ‘Nari Adalat’ scheme as a pilot project in 10 gram panchayats under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The scheme aims to provide justice at the village level for women facing domestic violence, physical abuse or other forms of harassment. It will be implemented in the state by the Social Welfare and Social Education Department.
The Nari Adalat will be launched in selected panchayats across districts, including North Tripura, Unakoti, Khowai, West Tripura, Sepahijala, Gomati, South Tripura and Dhalai. Each Nari Adalat will be managed by a committee comprising up to nine members, including respected local citizens and representatives from the concerned gram panchayat. The Minister said these decisions reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening governance, expanding employment opportunities and ensuring social justice at the grassroots level.
