India, Israel Elevate Ties to Special Strategic Partnership

India and Israel on Thursday elevated their bilateral relationship to a Special Strategic Partnership and exchanged multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across key sectors, following delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu.

The agreements span cultural exchange, geophysical exploration, fisheries and aquaculture, and cooperation in digital payments through the adoption of India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Israel. Both sides also agreed to advance education through the use of Artificial Intelligence.

In his press statement, Prime Minister Modi said the India-Israel relationship is built on deep trust, shared democratic values and strong human bonds, adding that the partnership has stood the test of time. He described his visit as a moment of pride and emotion, recalling that he was the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel nine years ago.

The two leaders also decided to establish a Critical and Emerging Technologies Partnership to boost cooperation in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, quantum technologies and critical minerals.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said India and Israel are innovation-driven nations with proud ancient civilizations and a shared determination to shape the future. He expressed confidence that both countries can achieve greater progress by working together.

The latest agreements mark a significant expansion of cooperation between the two nations across strategic, technological and cultural domains.
