Bangladesh Leaders Pay Tribute to Pilkhana Tragedy Victims

Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday paid homage to the victims of the 2009 Pilkhana tragedy, marking Shaheed Sena Day.
The leaders laid wreaths at the Banani Military Cemetery around 10:00 AM and observed a minute of silence in memory of the slain officers. Prayers were offered for the eternal peace of the departed and the well-being of their families.
The ceremony was attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Chief of Army Staff Waker-uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff M Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Air Staff Hasan Mahmood Khan, and Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh, Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.
On February 25–26, 2009, 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed at the then Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in Pilkhana. Since 2024, the day has been officially observed nationwide to honor the fallen officers.
