Anurag Kashyap Slams The Kerala Story 2; Director Kamakhya Narayan Singh Hits Back
Feb 23, 2026
Ahead of its release on 27 February 2026, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has strongly criticised the upcoming film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, calling it “bakwas” and “propaganda.” Kashyap’s comments particularly targeted a trailer scene showing a woman being force-fed beef, which he described as sensationalist and divisive.
Responding to the criticism, director Kamakhya Narayan Singh, a National Award winner, defended the film as a depiction of real incidents related to consent and coercion. In a statement, Singh argued that Kashyap misrepresented the film’s purpose, writing, “Your lies are creative freedom, and our truth is propaganda.” He urged that debates around the film should focus on facts and data rather than labels.
Produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under Sunshine Pictures, the sequel revisits the controversial subject of alleged forced religious conversions of young women. While some view the film as social commentary, others, including Kashyap, have condemned it as exaggerated and politically charged.
Despite the controversy, The Kerala Story 2 is set to hit theatres nationwide on 27 February 2026, with the debate around its narrative expected to continue.
