59 Families Served Fresh Eviction Notices in Assam’s Merapani
Feb 23, 2026The Assam Forest Department has issued fresh eviction notices to 59 families living in the No. 2 Negheribil area of Merapani in Golaghat district, intensifying its crackdown on alleged encroachments in reserved forest land.
The action follows a recent directive from the Supreme Court of India permitting the state government to proceed with eviction drives in forest areas.
Officials said the notices were served on February 21 in the presence of security personnel, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police. The families have been asked to vacate the land within seven days.
