Tripura: Man Injured in Alleged BSF Firing Near Border

A 45-year-old daily wage labourer was injured in an alleged firing incident involving personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) in the border-adjacent Putia area on Saturday night, leading to tension in the locality.

The injured, identified as Kader Mia, was reportedly returning home from Putia market when a jawan posted at the Putia Border Out Post (BOP) allegedly opened fire. The bullet struck his leg, leaving him seriously injured, according to local sources.

Residents rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshot and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was first taken to Boxanagar Social Health Centre for initial treatment. As his condition worsened, he was later referred to GB Hospital in Agartala for advanced medical care.

The incident triggered unrest among local residents, who questioned the circumstances surrounding the alleged firing. Family members of the injured man have demanded a fair and impartial investigation.

Officials said a probe has been initiated, and security has been tightened in the area to prevent further escalation. As of the filing of this report, the BSF had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
