Lula Accorded Ceremonial Welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday, marking the beginning of his official engagements in India.

President Lula is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day. The two leaders are expected to review the entire gamut of India–Brazil relations and discuss ways to further strengthen the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Discussions will cover key sectors including trade and investment, defence, energy — particularly renewable energy — agriculture, health and pharmaceuticals, critical minerals and rare earth materials, as well as science, technology and innovation. The leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including cooperation in multilateral forums, reform of global governance institutions, and issues concerning the Global South.

India and Brazil have shared a warm and multifaceted Strategic Partnership since 2006, rooted in common democratic values and strong people-to-people ties. Brazil is India’s largest trading partner in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region.

The two countries closely coordinate on major international issues such as UN reforms, climate change and combating terrorism. They also cooperate actively in plurilateral groupings including BRICS, IBSA and the G20, as well as in broader multilateral bodies such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and UNESCO.
