Minister Sushanta Chowdhury Launches AVYAY Senior Citizens’ Camp in Ranirbazar


Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism, Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday inaugurated an Awareness-cum-Yoga Camp for senior citizens under the Government of India’s Atal Vayu Abhyudaya Yojana (AVYAY) at Assampara, Ranirbazar.

AVYAY, launched in April 2021 by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is a comprehensive initiative aimed at ensuring financial security, healthcare, dignity, and social inclusion for citizens above 60 years of age. The camp focused on promoting health awareness and encouraging yoga practices to enhance the well-being and quality of life of elderly citizens.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of senior citizens, emphasizing the importance of awareness and preventive healthcare initiatives.

During the event, Sushanta Chowdhury also handed over a cheque of ₹50,000 to a beneficiary under the Chief Minister’s Kanya Bivah Yojana. Additionally, a grant of ₹5,000 was provided as social allowance support to a physically handicapped artisan.

The programme witnessed participation from local residents and officials,  underscoring the government’s continued focus on inclusive welfare and social empowerment.
