PM Modi Holds Bilateral Talks with Spain, Finland and Others at AI Summit


Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a series of bilateral meetings with world leaders in New Delhi on Wednesday on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit, aimed at strengthening cooperation in trade, technology, innovation and sustainability.

Prime Minister Modi met Pedro Sánchez at Hyderabad House, where both leaders discussed ways to deepen the India–Spain partnership. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, key areas of discussion included trade and economy, digital cooperation, innovation, health, climate action and education. The Prime Minister appreciated Spain’s consistent support for stronger India–EU relations and said the historic Free Trade Agreement with the European Union would have a positive impact on economic ties with Spain.

In a social media post, Mr Modi said the two leaders explored ways to boost friendship in defence, security and technology sectors. He also noted that 2026 will be observed as the India–Spain Year of Culture, Tourism and AI, which is expected to strengthen people-to-people ties. The Prime Minister welcomed the large delegation of Spanish universities visiting India, calling it a significant step toward closer academic collaboration.

Mr Modi also held talks with Petteri Orpo. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in sustainability, digitalisation, artificial intelligence research and ethical innovation. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing responsible and talent-driven AI and agreed to work towards doubling bilateral trade. They also explored collaboration in futuristic technologies such as 6G, clean energy, biofuels and the circular economy.

In another meeting, the Prime Minister met Aleksandar Vučić. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, AI, fintech, education, agriculture and tourism, along with enhancing people-to-people exchanges. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, reaffirming the long-standing friendship between India and Serbia.

Mr Modi further held bilateral talks with Andrej Plenković. He is also scheduled to meet Alar Karis, Tshering Tobgay and Olzhas Bektenov later in the day.
