AI Powers India’s Development Push, Focus on Governance and Public Services
Feb 16, 2026Artificial Intelligence (AI) is playing a pivotal role in accelerating India’s development journey, with a strong focus on strengthening governance and enhancing public service delivery. This was highlighted at the India AI Impact Summit, a five-day event bringing together global leaders, policymakers, technology firms, innovators and experts to explore the transformative potential of AI.
The summit, being held at Bharat Mandapam and Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, opened with a series of high-level panel discussions on the role of AI across key sectors.
Key sessions on the first day focused on the future of employability in the age of AI, the use of AI to transform India’s judicial ecosystem, data-driven solutions to enhance road safety, and the application of AI in building smart and resilient agriculture systems. Experts deliberated on how emerging technologies can improve efficiency, transparency and responsiveness in public administration.
Recognising the strategic importance of AI, the government has accorded high priority to building a robust and inclusive AI ecosystem. Initiatives such as the India AI Mission, the development of advanced AI compute infrastructure, promotion of indigenous AI models and large-scale capacity-building programmes are laying the groundwork for responsible and trusted AI adoption.
Officials emphasised that AI is not only a driver of innovation but also a key enabler of citizen-centric governance. By integrating AI into service delivery systems, India aims to enhance decision-making, improve accessibility and ensure sustainable development across sectors.
