Minister Bikas Debbarma Conducts Surprise Inspection of Tribal Hostel in North Tripura

Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma paid a surprise visit to the Damchhara Tribal Girls’ Hostel on Sunday morning to assess the overall educational and residential facilities for tribal students.

Arriving without prior notice, the Minister reviewed the hostel infrastructure, interacted with students, and inspected the quality of food being served. Stressing the importance of holistic education, Debbarma said that improving the standard of education requires not only academic excellence but also modern infrastructure, disciplined hostel management, and nutritious meals.

During the visit, officials informed him that two modern hostels with 100-bed capacity each for boys and girls have already been sanctioned, and construction work is underway. The Minister reiterated that creating a conducive learning environment is essential for students to focus on their studies and achieve their dreams.

In a notable gesture, Debbarma stood in line with the students and shared the hostel’s morning meal to personally evaluate the food quality. He also listened to their concerns and assured necessary steps for improvement wherever required.

Highlighting reforms under the present government, he stated that the daily food allocation for hostel students has been increased from ₹40–45 during the previous Communist Party of India (Marxist) regime to ₹100 per student per day under the current administration.

Emphasizing inclusivity, the Minister asserted that education must remain above political considerations and should be accessible and beneficial to all sections of society.
