BNP Secures Landslide Victory in Bangladesh Parliamentary Elections

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is poised to form the next government after securing a sweeping victory in the country’s 13th national parliamentary elections, crossing the two-thirds majority mark, according to official and party sources.

The BNP and its alliance partners are leading in 208 of the 284 constituencies declared so far, signalling a decisive mandate from voters and marking a dramatic return to power after nearly two decades in opposition.

Party Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul were among the prominent leaders who won their respective seats.

Congratulating the BNP leadership, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the victory reflects the trust and confidence of the Bangladeshi people. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh.

The Election Commission reported a voter turnout of 59.44 percent in the parliamentary polls and the simultaneous referendum. Voting was conducted peacefully across 299 constituencies, with counting still underway in the remaining seats as well as for the referendum.
