Minister Santana Chakma Felicitates IndiaSkills Winners, Launches Major Skill Boost for Youth

Industries Minister Santana Chakma on Friday felicitated the winners of the Regional IndiaSkills Competition 2025–26 and unveiled key skill development initiatives aimed at empowering youth and women across the state.
Addressing the programme, the Minister distributed certificates and cash incentives to medal winners, lauding their outstanding performance at the regional competition held in Assam. Tripura participated in 16 trades with 28 competitors and secured an impressive tally of 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze, and 1 Medallion of Excellence.
As many as 17 candidates from Tripura will now represent the state at the National IndiaSkills Competition, including 13 direct qualifiers in emerging and future-ready sectors such as Cyber Security, Industry 4.0, ICT Infrastructure, Renewable Energy, and Digital Construction.
The Minister highlighted that the National Skill Development Corporation provides cash awards of Rs. 75,000 for Gold, Rs. 50,000 for Silver, and Rs. 25,000 for Bronze winners at the regional level. In addition, under the Mukhya Mantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa (MMDUP), the Tripura government is offering matching incentives to each medal winner. She personally handed over the awards, praising the dedication of students, trainers, and institutions for elevating Tripura’s standing in the national skill ecosystem.
On the same occasion, the Minister formally launched the General Duty Assistant training programme under MMDUP in collaboration with Swadhin Trust. The initiative will provide 100 candidates with eight months of on-the-job training, a minimum monthly stipend of Rs. 8,000, and assured placement in the healthcare sector with a starting salary of at least Rs. 10,000 upon successful completion.
Further strengthening employability efforts, she also launched a Soft Skills and Interview Preparedness Course for 200 students from Government Degree Colleges across the state. The programme, consisting of 28 online live one-on-one interview modules, aims to enhance communication skills, confidence, and professional conduct, preparing students for employment and competitive examinations.
Congratulating the medal winners and participants, the Minister extended her best wishes to the 17 candidates heading to the national stage and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding skill development opportunities and empowering Tripura’s youth.
