Vote Counting Underway as Bangladesh Election Concludes Peacefully


The counting of votes has begun following the peaceful conclusion of Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election and a national Referendum, which ended at 4:30 PM on Thursday.

According to Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, voter turnout reached around 48 percent by 2 PM nationwide. Voting had started at 7:30 AM across 42,779 polling centers in 299 constituencies.

A total of 127,711,793 voters were registered, including 64,825,361 males, 62,885,200 females, and 1,232 from the third gender.

Top political leaders cast their ballots earlier in the day. BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman voted at Gulshan Model High School and College around 9:30 AM, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman cast his vote at Monipur High School and College.
