Jakhar Invites Punjab Farmers for Talks on India–US Trade Deal

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab President Sunil Jakhar has invited farmer organisations in the state for a dialogue on the India–US trade agreement, urging them to opt for discussions instead of protests if they have concerns about the deal.

Addressing the media after a meeting of party workers in Mohali on Wednesday, Jakhar asserted that the agreement would not have any adverse impact on farmers, particularly those in Punjab. He maintained that key crops grown in the state, including wheat, paddy, maize and sugarcane, have been kept outside the scope of the agreement and would remain unaffected.

Jakhar said the trade pact is expected to benefit industry and commerce while creating new employment opportunities for the youth. He appealed to farmer groups to clearly outline any specific concerns they may have regarding the agreement’s impact on Punjab’s agricultural sector.

Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests, Jakhar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is firmly dedicated to protecting the farming community, and that the same resolve has ensured that Punjab’s interests have been secured under the agreement.
