Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday praised the Union Budget 2026-27, describing it as people-centric and aimed at the welfare of various sections of society. Speaking at Gandhi Gram in the Bamutia constituency, in the presence of Union Minister Tokhan Sahu, Chowdhury addressed local farmers and highlighted key initiatives introduced by the Narendra Modi-led government.
He emphasized the historic increase in the defence budget, which has risen from ₹2.53 lakh crore in 2013-14 to ₹7.84 lakh crore in 2026-27. According to Chowdhury, this significant allocation will strengthen India’s national security, boost the preparedness of the armed forces, promote indigenisation, and accelerate technological modernization.
Chowdhury said the budget reflects the government’s commitment to both national security and the welfare of citizens, particularly farmers and rural communities.
