Joint Forces Face Resistance during anti-Ganja Operation

A joint team of the Assam Rifles and the Border Security Force (BSF) faced strong resistance on Monday morning while conducting an anti-ganja operation in the North Kalamchoura area of Sepahijala district.
Sources said that as the joint forces moved into the area to curb illegal ganja cultivation, a group of ganja cultivators allegedly surrounded the security personnel from all directions. The situation turned tense when the cultivators, armed with sharp weapons, began hurling bricks and stones at the forces.
To control the situation and disperse the aggressive crowd, the BSF and Assam Rifles personnel reportedly fired 15 to 20 rounds in the air as warning shots. Despite this, the cultivators did not immediately withdraw, prompting the forces to disengage from the area to avoid further escalation.
The joint team later retreated from the spot and shifted their personnel to a safe location. Officials indicated that this period coincides with the harvesting and storage of dried ganja, leading cultivators to act in an organised manner to prevent law enforcement agencies from seizing the illegal produce.
The anti-ganja operation remained inconclusive, and further action is expected to be taken in coordination with the local administration.
