Tejaswin Shankar Wins Gold as India Finishes Sixth


India concluded its campaign at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tianjin, China, with a total of five medals, finishing sixth in the overall standings. Tejaswin Shankar delivered India’s standout performance by clinching the gold medal in the men’s heptathlon.

Shankar amassed 5,993 points to set a new national indoor record, surpassing his previous mark of 5,650 points achieved in the United States in 2021. His victory accounted for India’s only gold medal at the championships.

On the final day of competition, India added three more medals. Pooja won silver in the women’s high jump, Tajinderpal Singh Toor secured silver in the men’s shot put, and Ancy Sojan claimed bronze in the women’s long jump.

Host nation China dominated the championships, topping the medal standings with 34 medals, including 10 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze.
